At Lindley, we aim to prepare our children for a rapidly changing technological world. Our high-quality computing curriculum is designed to equip pupils with the computational thinking, creativity and digital skills needed to understand and participate in modern society.

Technology is an integral part of everyday life and will continue to shape the future. We therefore aim to ensure that children develop confidence, curiosity and a positive attitude towards technology, enabling them to become responsible, capable digital citizens with a lifelong interest in learning.

At the core of our computing curriculum is computer science. Pupils learn the key principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to apply this knowledge through programming. Building on this foundation, pupils develop their skills in information technology by creating programs, systems and digital content.
Computing also supports pupils in becoming digitally literate – able to use technology effectively, express themselves creatively and develop their ideas through information and communication technology.

Our progressive computing curriculum provides pupils with the essential knowledge, skills and understanding required to participate safely, confidently and effectively in an increasingly digital world.

Although the Computing Lead role is shared, both leaders work collaboratively to ensure consistency, progression and high-quality teaching across the school.

Both leaders have expertise in computing and work together to support staff, monitor provision and develop the curriculum.
The computing curriculum is planned using the National Centre for Computing Education Teach Computing scheme as the main structure, with additional units designed in-house to meet the specific needs of our pupils.
The curriculum follows a progressive and spiral approach, allowing pupils to revisit key concepts and build on prior learning as they move through school.

Across the school, pupils develop knowledge and skills within the key strands of computing: Programming, Creating Media, Data and Information, Computer Systems and Networks Pupils have regular opportunities to use a range of digital devices, including Chromebooks and iPads, enabling them to develop confidence with different forms of technology.

To support creativity and digital skills, pupils also use a range of software and online platforms including: Scratch, Google Workspace applications, Canva and Turtle Academy. These tools allow pupils to create, collaborate and present their work in meaningful ways. An inclusive approach is central to the delivery of computing. Pupils with additional needs are supported through adaptive technology, including alternative keyboards, mice and personal iPads where appropriate. Adult support is also provided when necessary to ensure all pupils can access the curriculum successfully.

More able pupils are provided with opportunities to deepen and extend their learning through additional challenges within lessons, as well as wider opportunities such as Primary Engineer, STEM activities and other enrichment opportunities.

Computing is monitored through a range of strategies including: pupil voice questionnaires completed by a range of pupils across the school, staff questionnaires to gather feedback on the curriculum and teaching review of pupils’ digital work, informal learning discussions with pupils and staff.

Online safety is a key element of our computing curriculum. The Computing Leads oversee the teaching of online safety using the resources from National College, ensuring pupils understand how to use technology safely, responsibly and respectfully.
Across the wider curriculum, pupils regularly use Seesaw as a digital learning journal to share and celebrate their learning. Pupils confidently upload their work, and parents can access their child’s journal to see the experiences and achievements taking place in school.

The impact of our computing curriculum is seen in pupils who are confident, capable and responsible users of technology. By the time pupils leave Lindley, they are digitally literate and confident in using a wide range of hardware and software. They demonstrate clear progression in their computing knowledge and technical skills and are able to select appropriate digital tools and programs to achieve specific goals. Pupils are able to create and present digital content creatively and effectively, applying the skills they have developed across different areas of the curriculum. They also understand how to use the internet safely and responsibly and know how to seek help if they encounter concerns online.

Pupils demonstrate increasing independence when using technology and are able to explain their understanding of key computing concepts. The impact of the curriculum is evidenced through pupils’ digital work stored on platforms such as Google Drive and Seesaw, as well as through pupil voice and staff feedback questionnaires and regular monitoring by computing leaders. The quality of the digital outcomes pupils produce across the curriculum further demonstrates the effectiveness of our approach.

Through this, pupils leave Lindley equipped with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to participate safely, confidently and effectively in an increasingly digital world.
